Netflix to Come to iPhone

After an astounding success as a start up, Netflix has become a mainstay in the United States where it offers DVDs by mail to millions of households that then have the option of keeping the DVDs for as long as they want. Recently, it has begun to expand into the online video rental industry that is blossoming in the US and around the world, offering movies for limited download rental or through a streaming format similar to YouTube. Now the movie renting giant is testing out plans to embark on a platform’s construction that will allow them to rent movies over the iPhone by surveying its subscribers to find out what the interest level in such a platform might be. If analyst estimations are correct, this would mean that large percentage of the Netflix user base already has an iPhone and would be willing to use it to rent videos on the device.
After the success that Sling Media experienced, it is conceivable that Netflix would be able to offer TV episodes and movies via more than just the standard Wi Fi connection, perhaps making use of the AT&T Edge connections to be able to deliver the content. Subscribers would have their choice of the vast Netflix repository of films and TV shows and most likely would not need to pay for the app, instead being able to expand their current Netflix subscription by just a few dollars a month to have iPhone access to the whole library of media.
